Credit cards are accepted in most Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta area shops and restaurants. Visa and Mastercard are the most popular although American Express is accepted in some places. Traveler’s checks are also widely accepted although the Discover Card is not yet. It is suggested that you ask the merchant, in advance, which credit cards are accepted.
